Characterize 5G Antennas Antenna Measuring Chamber Becomes Climate Chamber

Rohde & Schwarz offers a temperature option for its mobile antenna measuring chamber. It can be used to characterize specimens at -20 °C to +85 °C.

The temperature option is offered for the mobile R&S ATS1000 antenna test system. The test system is designed for the frequency range from 18 GHz to 87 GHz. In this range, interference frequencies from outside the chamber are attenuated by more than 50 dB. The temperature extension has a smaller operating range from 23.5 GHz to 44.3 GHz, which is sufficient for the characterization of 5G antennas and terminals.

Characterization of 5G Components

The temperature option increases the operating temperature range from 10 °C to 27 °C to –20 °C to +85 °C. It consists of a round temperature chamber with a diameter of 30 cm, which is integrated into the measuring chamber. The interior of the temperature chamber offers space for a test specimen with a maximum footprint of 22 cm x 22 cm. Mechanical connections for a heating and cooling unit are available. The unit itself must be purchased from a third-party supplier. The heating chamber consists of a Rohacell composite material that is transparent in the operational frequency range. The influence on the measurements is less than 1 dB.

Manufacturers of 5G chips and end devices can now perform OTA tests in one measurement and simultaneously investigate the temperature behavior of the test specimen. According to Rohde & Schwarz, this option is currently not available with any other device on the market.
