Electric Models Continue to Sell Only Weakly on the German Car Market.

The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (Bafa) received another 2,873 applications for the state premium for the promotion of sales in May, the authority in Eschborn near Frankfurt announced on Monday. Accordingly, the total number of applications submitted since July 2016 increased to 63,285. 36,611 applications were submitted for purely electric cars, 26,657 for plug-in hybrids, and the remaining 17 for vehicles with a fuel cell.For vehicles purchased since May 18, 2016, funding may be applied for retroactively. For pure electric cars with batteries the premium is 4000 euros and for hybrid cars it is 3,000 euros. Half of the premiums are financed by the federal government and half by the respective manufacturer.

So far, only about one-fifth of the funds provided have been used, which would be sufficient for more than 300,000 vehicles. The program will run until the end of June 2019.
