DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK - 25 years serving design engineers

Since its first issue in 1985, technical journal DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK has been focussing exclusively one target group: design engineers in professional electronics. In order to serve design engineers’ specific information needs professionally and targeted DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK’s editors have always been performing an extraordinarily deep and well-founded understanding of the latest technical challenges. Thus, it’s not surprising that engineers and physicists have been gathering and preparing information, writing or editing technical articles featuring great detailed knowledge for DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK ever since 1985.

This autumn, DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK is going to be 25 years old. A special issue will highlight a quarter of a century of technical information for design engineers. The issue will deal with DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK’s own research laboratory in the eighties, artistically designed magazine covers, changes in DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK’s looks and the successful event program of DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK in more than 20 years time which is unique in the German electronics technical media in its complexity.

DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK’s information mix ranging from the printed technical journal, conferences and workshops to the comprehensive online portal elektroniknet.de supplies design engineers with exactly the information they need to accomplish their technical challenges – today and 25 years ago.

elektroniknet.de reports a growth of 34 percent

In 2009, elektroniknet.de achieved 34 percent more page impressions than in 2008. Visits increased by 32 percent. elektroniknet.de reports almost 10.7 million page impressions in 2009, 9.5 million of which on editorial content. For comparison: the only IVW-online audited competitor in professional electronics reports no more than 4.6 million page impressions on editorial content which amounts up to less than half of elektroniknet.de's page impressions.

The enormous reach of elektroniknet.de is based on its extraordinary editorial value. 30 editors contribute to the leading IVW-audited web service in professional electronics. They publish latest news, products and expert knowledge. For 12 years, elektroniknet.de has been “online“ and supplying electronics decision makers with tailor-made content from topics such as automation, automotive, components, distribution, e-mechanics, e-manifacturing, embedded, communications, measuring&testing, opto-electronics and power supplies.

Design engineers: DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK, Elektronik and Markt&Technik deliver least wasted circulation

LA ELFA is a tool which helps to better understand electronic trade journals’ readership. Whereas IVW-EDA analysis delivers information on quantity and structure of trade journals’ recipients. EDA stands for recipients-data-analysis. IVW is the official German Audit Bureau of Circulations.

IVW-EDA proves that insertions in DESIGN&ELEKTRONIK, Elektronik and Markt&Technik deliver the least wasted circulation when targeting recipients from research, development and design. According to IVW-EDA, in this top-class target group those three titles enjoy the highest percentages among all electronics trade journals.

New technical medium »Energie&Technik«

How to find one’s way through the jungle of energy efficiency

»Energie&Technik« supports decision makers in their choice of the best products and technologies for energy efficiency. IT will be published four times in 2009.

Saving energy, renewable energy sources, electric cars, hybrid cars, new batteries, fuel cells – these are keywords one reads and hears of in the media each day not only since the recent announcement of the Desertec project. However, what is really connected with these keywords? »Energie&Technik« combines the expertise of fifteen editors. It helps readers to better find their way through the jungle of »green technologies«.

»Energie&Technik« reports about energy sources – such as solar heat, photovoltaics, wind power and new battery technologies as well as fuel cells and energy harvesting. The new technical medium shows consumers in industries and households how to work in an energy efficiently way. Communications methods from machine to machine – especially intelligent electric meters – play a major role in that context. No matter if wireless or powerline, enormous amounts of energy can be saved when sensors report the actual energy demand by networks and when devices are automatically adequately turned on or off.

Energy supply companies are working full speed to construct their networks so that they are ideally suited for the entry from renewable energy sources. Apart from that they have to react immediately to the changing demands of consumers and correspondingly manage the consumptions by tariffs. It should even be possible to use car batteries as huge shared energy accumulators as soon as there will be enough electric cars. All that requires the construction of a completely new IT infrastructure which will be more complex than today’s internet.

Apart from intelligent power and gas meters wireless sensor networks will contribute decisively to the reduction of the energie consumption in industries and households in the future. The complete savings potential can only be put into effect when all technologies work together.

As already mentioned above industries and households show a tendency towards automation. Plus there is a variety of different fields: intelligent engine controls contribute considerably to energy saving, so do LED illuminations. Those concepts allow completely new illumination concepts, e.g. in supermarkets and in museums, as elements of architectural design and in street lamps.

All the applications have one thing in common: Without electronics they cannot work. »Energie&Technik« provides information about the demands of the different applications concerning electronics, about existing possibilities and about the direction the development leads towards. Furthermore, readers will get to know which sub systems are required, how they have to be designed and which requirements they have to meet to be able to work in the end devices.

»Energie&Technik« wants to support all those who work in the development, design and marketing of energy efficiently products to make the right decisions. »Energie&Technik« gives information about relevant products available in the markets and about products and technologies manufacturers are constantly developing. And which is not to be forgotten: »Energie&Technik« provides an overview about latest laws and regulations dealing with energy consumption of devices. In short: with »Energie&Technik« energy management and decision makers in purchase of components and semi-finished products are always up-to-date. They know about the developments in the fragmented market of »green technologies« – and about the impacts on their work.
